Smart_Movi is a non-intrusive software-tool  for the detection and measurement of traffic on streets: detects and counts vehicles, and calculates the distance between them as well as their speed with the accuracy required for being used as a speed detector.

Smart_Movi provides the Traffic Operations Center with real-time data on which to base decision-making oriented to traffic management.

Smart_Movi on the news

In 15 years, 60% of the world population will live in cities. As a consequence, the traffic intensity will increase, what has problems associated such as congestions and accidents. In Madrid (Spain), for instance, a citizen who is stuck in a traffic jam every day in his way to work loses 500€ per year. Regarding accidents, the cost to society of a road traffic victim is 1.4 Million euro; in 2014 we had more than 1100 road fatalities in Spain.
Cities use Intelligent Transport Systems (ITS) for traffic management. An ITS collects traffic data from sensors (such as cinemometers and video cameras) scattered across a city and transforms them into information to make decisions in order to preserve the traffic flow and detect incidents in real time. The cost of the software needed to implement an ITS is of the order of EUR 1 Million euro; and cost of improvements vary from 60,000 to 100,000 euro. However, current ITS present limitations that MOVi-TeC is able to solve.
The software MOVi-TeC detects and counts vehicles, and calculates the distance between them as well as their speed with the accuracy required for being used as a cinemometer. The software uses ONE SINGLE VIDEO CAMERA, and the camera may be any type, since MOVi-TeC is hardware-independent. Therefore, any camera already installed in a city could be used as a sensor for MOVi-TeC, meaning that the city would optimize the use of its surveillance cameras without incurring any additional expenditure. In short, MOVi-TeC is an ITS technology more efficient than the current solutions, and besides it enables margins for saving between 40% to 80%.
